Reforming Nigeria’s electricity sector

The project aims to support the electricity sector reform in Nigeria and sustain its positive impacts on inclusive and balanced economic growth by providing qualified and well-trained personnel to public and private companies. The objective is to offer technical support and skills transfer to the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) Project Implementation Unit, enabling the implementation of improved training programs, modernisation of NAPTIN's Regional Training Centres, and corporate development, including reforming NAPTIN's structure and business model.
Key outcomes include developing new training programs and curricula, upgrading trainers, and organising capacity-buildings for the Project Implementation Unit on financial management and gender action plans. Infrastructure development involves creating workshops and hostel accommodations, with ongoing construction and renovation at various Regional Training Centres and the Abuja HQ Training Center, designed with gender and inclusion sensitivity. Additionally, the project has restructured NAPTIN, established a corporate governance system, and developed NAPTIN’s Gender Policy and Environmental and Social Risk Framework, along with marketing strategies to improve customer relationship management.
The project has significant people-focused impacts, providing skilled employment opportunities and promoting gender equality. Partnering with Power Africa's Growing Green Jobs for Women in Nigeria program has empowered approximately 500 women and youths. Events like the International Day of the Girl Child have inspired young girls to pursue STEM careers, fostering a safer and healthier future for communities across Nigeria.
