Enhancing access to renewable energy in Bangladesh

The Renewable Energy Programme, funded by loans and grants from KfW Development Bank, is dedicated to enhancing access to renewable energy in Bangladesh, with a particular focus on income-generating projects that bolster the sustainability of industries and businesses. GOPA played a pivotal role in supporting the Infrastructure Development Company Limited by fortifying their institutional framework and outreach efforts.
GOPA provided comprehensive assistance throughout the appraisal and implementation phases of various renewable energy projects, including solar photovoltaic power plants, mini-grids, photovoltaic irrigation pumps, and biogas power generation. Our involvement encompassed the development of financial products for eligible investments, refinement of existing financial tools, and the establishment of a robust project pipeline.
Additionally, GOPA delivered extensive capacity-building programmes, empowering stakeholders with the necessary skills and knowledge to successfully deploy renewable energy projects. As a result, the Renewable Energy Programme has significantly increased renewable energy capacity in Bangladesh, reduced carbon emissions, and promoted sustainable energy practices. This initiative not only supports the country's environmental goals but also fosters economic growth by enabling industries and businesses to thrive through sustainable energy solutions.
Moreover, the project has had substantial people-focused impacts, improving the quality of life for local communities by providing reliable and affordable energy sources. Access to renewable energy has also created new job opportunities, contributing to economic development and enhancing livelihoods across Bangladesh.
